Hot and smoky peaches

The hot weather is back and it brought the smoke from BC with it. I knew that we were expected to have unusual 100+ degree days again this week but I was completely unprepared for the smoke and wind. I started early this morning, wanting to beat the heat and knowing that I had just a little to pick for set orders, but as the morning went on it became clear that I would need to continue to pick everything I could. The wind had picked up and you could hear the branches crashing together and peaches, beautiful ripe peaches, hit the ground. Heartbreaking. So peaches that could have potentially hung on the tree for a few more days needed to be picked immediately. So much for the best laid plans. I took 150lbs of the ripest peaches off and hope that the winds will not come back tomorrow.
