Our Story

It has certainly been a winding road for us. We met while serving in the Peace Corps in Nepal and returned home intent on building careers in international development. We fell in love, established careers in Washington, D.C., traveled the world, got married, and eventually jumped at an opportunity to move back to Nepal to pursue our first professional overseas assignment.

Then, babies. Henry spent his first few years in rural Nepal where he learned to walk, love buffalo milk, and understand what a truly good mango tastes like. Camille wanted part of the action a few years later. She was prone to hugging street dogs, eating adult-sized portions of rice, and embracing a culture where anyone will carry a child everywhere. We reluctantly returned to DC after five years but shortly thereafter accepted an offer to move to Kenya. In Nairobi, we dove into a new culture, worked long hours during the week, and spoiled ourselves with weekend game drives and frequent visits to the coast. Life was good, but we also began dreaming of our next adventure after many years of living overseas.

We felt it was time to establish roots and be part of a less-nomadic community. It was time to come home. Both of us had early dreams of farming, but we had no practical experience in agriculture. Being naturally responsible parents, we quit our perfectly-good jobs, sold our house, piled our kids and pets into our aging car, and drove across the country to pursue a new adventure in Washington state. We spent a year as interns at Cloud Mountain Farm Center in Everson. We were hooked. We bought a 20-acre farm nearby in 2017 and have put everything into building a farm, raising our kids, and engaging with the amazing farming community in this region.
